Phuket FIVB tournament

Phuket beach volleyball FIBV women's tournament will be held at Kata and Karon beach in Phuket Thailand.

We're down to the finals now
We're down to the finals now with two Chinese teams going head to head for the gold and the silver medals. The two teams have already faced each ohter once in this tournament with the number 2 seeds of Wang and Jia beating their compatriots from China of Xue Chen and Zhang Xi.
The bronze medal match will feature Americans Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh who won last weekend in Acapulco Mexico against the 3rd place finishers the Norwegians, Ann Hakedal and Ingrid Torlen.
Both matches should be exciting with the two matches being televised live on TV in Thailand as well as most of Europe.

The FIVB has been putting on
The FIVB has been putting on a great tournament. Everything here has been for free for the fans. There has been free entry, free water and soft drinks, and for those lucky enough to find it, free food.
The first day of the tournament saw some good play on a hot and humid day. Both Thailand teams went 1 and 1 so they will both be playing tomorrow. As it stands now, there are 2 Chinese teams that went undefeated the first day, along with two U.S. teams.
Play resumes tomorrow, Friday, at 9 a.m. with both Thailand teams playing in back to back center court matches, then the number one seed of May Treanor and Walsh will face the other undefeated team of Youngs and Branagh.

Qualifying was today and
Qualifying was today and there were some upsets as the English team beat the number one seeded qualifier team from China. All 4 Thailand teams lost in the qualifier, but the host country Thailand still has 2 teams in the main draw which starts tomorrow.
Play was held on the outside courts as the tarp covering for spectator shade blew off in the night during a storm. Play will resume on the main court starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday Nov 2nd.
Conditions today went from overcast, to hot and sunny with plenty of humidity thrown in.

In the bronze medal match,
In the bronze medal match, the Americans of Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh dominated the Norwegians Nila Ann Hakedal and Ingrid Torlen. Misty May Treanor had some nice blocks at the net, and the Americans played some good defense. The Norwegians ball control was a little lacking and they missed some shots that they usually make.
In the gold medal match, the #3 seeds of Xue Chen and Zhang Xi played very well against a team that appeared to have one player who was not at 100%. Tian Jia at one point had to take an injury timeout and lie down for 5 minutes during the match and appeared to be suffering from heatstroke. The way the eventual champions played, it didn't appear that a healthy Tian Jia and Wang Jie would have beat them anyway.
